Nelligan O'Brien Payne was the first Canadian law firm to join Great Lakes Law, a regional association of independent general practice law firms that provides a legal network throughout the industrial and commercial heartland of Canada and the United States.

In 2005, Great Lakes Law affiliated with Lexwork International, an association of mid-sized independent law firms in major cities located across Europe and Asia. This new combined network is a cost-effective and efficient solution to address the international needs of clients. Clients will have access to more than 1,600 lawyers from over 28 firms across Europe, North America and Asia. Through Lexwork International, clients with legal needs in foreign countries can be referred to firms that are knowledgeable about local laws and local customs.
